New Year's Eve 2012

New Year's Eve looks different every year in our household.

Last year: partying with the Arthur family on an unseasonably warm evening, watching online footage of the tornadoes which had torn through Rolla, and eating ourselves into a dairy coma from all the scrumptious appetizers and desserts covering every square inch of Maegan's counter.

This year: falling asleep on the couch at 9:00pm. Tom had been working hard all day on the upstairs renovations. I helped him install two new windows. Another balmy, unbelievably beautiful day. Feeling happily tired from the last 7 plus days of traveling, company, and frivolity I basically ho-hummed around the house doing laundry and piddly things.
The boys have coughs, so we opted to stay home this year and take it easy.

At 4:00pm Hosanna and I trekked to Trader Joe's to get our dinner of appetizers. Hummus, fish sticks, pot-stickers, pigs n' blankets, that sort of thing. We prepared the spread, ate the spread, opened family gifts, and then Tom and I started drooling on the couch with glazed eyes. The kids, however, were bouncing (literally) everywhere, and begged me to read to them. Which I did. Then they begged to watch a movie together. Again, I obliged, now fused to the couch cushions, and we watched “Gnomeo & Juliet” on my laptop. It's a really cute movie. After that, a little sparkling juice and then off to bed for everyone!

Our neighbor warned us that she'd be banging pots at midnight. We were blissfully unaware.

  1. Wow, sounds like you guys had a great evening!!! Staying up until midnight is overrated, unless you're with friends who like to induce dairy comas, then it's wonderful!! We missed you guys this year!
